Wonderful meal

I visited the talbot for a meal for the first time in years for a family birthday, the food was fantastic, big portions, fresh produce and obvious skill in the kitchen to bring it together.
On top of this the staff were wonderful as always!

Food order forgotten received food which was SO HOT we couldn't eat it

Went for a meal, seated and ordered food without a problem. Sat waiting for an hour with other people served who came in after us! There weren't many in the pub ordering either!
When we asked where our food was apparently it hadn't been done! We were told they would put a rush on it, unfortunately it was SO HOT when it arrived it was as if the meals had been made & left and when the realisation set in, they shoved them in a microwave. The chips had no substance and had been well and truly nuked and my husband burnt the roof of his mouth. Suffice to say we didn't eat much of the food. No offer of a reduction for the cost of the meals or maybe the two drinks we had, we had to pay the full whack of just under £40
We had to buy ice cream for his mouth and crisps as we were hungry on the way home!
Moral of this tale don't leave it too long if the food hasn't arrived ask where it is!

New year break

Visited the Talbot Inn on the 29th December as we were staying nearby. First impression was very good, nice table for 6 of us by the fire. Landlord and staff were very attentive and helpful.
Food was excellent and would highly recommend this pub.
Five star by us.

Lovely stay in Much wenlock

Lovely old pub in the very lovely Much Wenlock with rooms in old buildings beside the pub. Car park for 3 cars at the rear but adjacent to public car park when full. Very good accommodation, spotlessly clean on the first floor. The only issue is lack of shower as the ceiling height does not allow. Mixer tap over bath did not mix so shower not possible. Bathroom a bit tired with cracked basin. Breakfast is served on the ground floor of one of the accommodation buildings. This was generous and ingredients of good quality. Very happy overall.

No Sunday Roast for walk in customers.

After driving up from Essex we wanted a good Sunday Roast and I had seen good reviews of The Talbot so we headed there. We hadn’t booked as we weren’t sure what time we would be arriving after the 3+ hour drive so we walked in and asked if we could have a table for 2. We were shown a table near the bar and our drinks order was taken. Menus were then delivered. It didn’t take long for us to decide on two roast beef. My husband went to the bar to order, only to be told that”we don’t do Sunday roast for walk ins”. We were not happy, this hadn’t been mentioned, there were no notices stating this and we had been given a menu with the Sunday roasts on. As we already had our drinks we felt there was no option but to order from the normal menu. This wasn’t what we had planned and there was no apology. We eventually decided what we would have so, I ordered the Shropshire chicken and my husband ordered Paddy’s sausages. Both were freshly cooked, piping hot, delicious and very generous portions. We both enjoyed the food and would go there again but the disappointment of not being able to order a roast did put us on the back foot.
Please make this policy clear, either by not giving out menus with Sunday Roast on, telling walk in customers up front or have clear notices stating this policy.
