An enjoyable stay in a room overlooking the Market Square.

This is a really good budget hotel in the bustling Market Square. We paid extra for a feature room overlooking the square, and that was worth every penny.
The room was clean and the twin beds comfortable.
Staff were very friendly and the pub on the ground floor has Wetherspoon's usual good choice of food and drink. We made the mistake of arriving on a Thursday - market day - and had some difficulty finding a space to park. We drove a little way out of the town centre to park and walked in, and later in the day brought the car to the large carpark behind Sainsbury which was a cheap overnight stay.

Disgusting staff behaviour

A fairly large group of friends visited this Wetherspoons, for our annual get together, expecting the usual level of Wetherspoons service. Unfortunately the attitude from several members of staff completely ruined the experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. Constantly being told to move away from the bar - strange for a bar business. Simple and fair questions directed to the young lady making these demands were met with dismissive responses, and there seemed to be very little patience or basic courtesy shown toward us.
What was most disappointing was the way concerns were handled. Instead of listening or trying to help, staff appeared irritated and uninterested, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable for our whole group.
The situation then escalated unnecessarily when one member of our group was refused service and told to leave, for simply stating that this was no way to treat customers. The so-called manager/owner, then threatened to call the police if we failed to leave. There was simply no need for the situation to be handled so aggressively.
To make matters worse, the manager behind the bar became overly rude and confrontational, even going as far as boasting that he earned more money than the person he was refusing to serve. That comment was completely unprofessional and unnecessary, and it summed up the attitude we experienced throughout the visit.
The pub itself was busy, which we understand, but being busy is not an excuse for rude behaviour, poor communication, or treating customers in a confrontational and disrespectful manner. In the end, the entire group decided to leave because the atmosphere had become so uncomfortable. We won't be returning.

Must visit

Very clean rooms. Everything you need provided. Lovely friendly staff. Restaurant downstairs, wide selection. Very good. Definitely not expensive. Excellent

Stopped in the feature room. Would i pay the extra they want. To me its a know . All the rooms need a good clean

Paid extra to over look the square. Was it worth it, a defintley no. Bathroom floor needed a sweep and a good mop, absouletley minging. Went out to buy some socks. Woundnt pay the extra to look over the square again disappointing in a way ecpected more.

Easter break

Lovely hotel, bedroom was lovely, drinks tray well covered with oat milk & normal milk, drinking chocolate, coffees, teas & biscuits, also bottled water.
Lovely white towels & bedding.
The only fault for us was a green light in the ceiling that was over bright & kept us awake, but would definitely return.
