A Home Away From Home During A Difficult Time
I stayed at the Rutland Hotel while my partner was in hospital in June 2026, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during such a difficult time.
The location is perfect – just a few minutes' walk from the hospital, which meant I felt safe walking back and forth on my own, even late at night.
However what really made my stay was the staff. Every member of the team was kind, caring and genuinely interested in how my partner was doing. They regularly checked in on me and made what was a very stressful time feel a little easier. When complications during my partner's surgery meant I needed to extend my stay, they sorted everything out quickly and took away one less thing for me to worry about.
A special thank you to Alison, who was absolutely wonderful. Her kindness and support made a real difference, and I'll always be grateful for how she looked after me.
I also ate in the hotel on several evenings, and the food was very good, with generous portion sizes and great value.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Rutland Hotel, especially to anyone needing accommodation while a loved one is at the nearby hospital. Thank you all for your kindness and compassion.

Well below expectations
Had a disappointing stay here that was well below my expectations from the website and overpriced for what you get.
The view shown on the website is of the small garden and breakfast room. The entrance is dated and shabby which pretty much sums up the place.
My room was small with very bizarre decor - a picture of a giant woman looming over the bed? Not the best background for an online meeting! I am slim but had to perform contortions to get into the desk and someone larger than me may struggle to fit on the toilet... The shower was great, but there was a cloth left on it? The sink is so small the tiny kettle only just fit and you can forget filling up a water bottle.
Positives - comfy beds (but a plasticky mattress topper), OK breakfast.
The staff were excellent and clearly doing their best in a building desperately in need of renovation

As a historic building made up of three Victorian houses, many of our bedrooms do vary considerably in size, layout and character, which means some rooms are more compact than others. That said, I completely understand your comments regarding the room layout, available sockets and overall comfort.
I'm also sorry to hear about the cloth being left in your shower. This is certainly not the standard we expect from our housekeeping team, and I will be addressing this with the team to ensure greater attention to detail.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the décor and condition of the hotel. We have an ongoing refurbishment programme in place, with improvements continuing throughout the property, and feedback such as yours helps us prioritise where we focus our efforts.

Fab staff!
Stayed while my mum was having treatment at the hospital - hotel is perfect location for hospital stay which is a two minute walk down the road. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Hotel is dog friendly and has a lovely little enclosed garden. Food also very good. Special thanks to Alison who helped to look after my dog so I could be with my mum at the hospital, you are amazing :)

No place to stay during a heatwave!
Sadly, I didn't enjoy my stay. The room was small and dark. The weather was hot and so was the room. There was a fan provided, but I daren't use it, since my allergic rhinitis was complaining too much already. I slept badly both nights. The room was shabby for the price and I didn't know about the £10/night charge for car parking until I arrived. I decided against breakfast due to the price, so can't comment on the food. The staff were friendly. The most redeeming feature was the proximity to the university, 3 or 4 minutes walk to where I was working.

Pleasant, clean, very reasonable and lovely staff.
Couple nights due to an event with a group of old moaney middle aged men.
Hottest day of the year, fans in rooms were a great touch thank you.
Location fantastic.
Price very reasonable .
Rooms / bathrooms spotless, bed comfy.
Hotel decor aging in areas, didnt detract from the visit. Charming place, definitely stay again.
Staff a real credit, loved Lara.
