Perfect place for what I needed....

Popped in here to pass the time while waiting for a friend to finish at a gig they were playing at locally.
Having seen the reviews i thought i would give it a go anyway, i always take the best and worst reviews with a pinch of salt. Nice and quiet for a windy wet Sturday and was able to sit in a corner and tap away not disturbing anyone or being distubed.
I don't know if the signage regarding the parking is new but to those who have complained about the parking ...you would have to be severely visually impaired not to have noticed all of the signs in the car park, the multiple signs as you enter and the 6 foot tall by 4 foot wide sign as you approach the bar... also there is signage in the toilets ...genuinely if this was here before and you missed it and also missed the great big electronic device you have to register your vehicle on, then maybe it's time to give up driving.
Drinks were good, staff were friendly ...fit my needs perfectly ...and good fast free wifi (although i think i was the only one using it so it may be different when the place is full)

Rip-off parking!

What can I say!
A £100 parking fine in a pub car park leaves a bad taste after quite a reasonable fish and chips lunch.
Parked and signed in via the screen on the bar, then weeks later a £100 fine turned up.
My appeal, substantiated by proof of dining with excert from my bank statement, yet still rejected and reduced to £20.
No wonder the pub was empty, and looking very near closure, and the phone number constantly engaged!

Be careful parking

Be very careful when parking. You have to input your car reg no on a terminal in the pub to get free parking. The terminal isn’t obvious and signage in the car park is insufficient. If you miss the information you get a hefty fine. My husband called in for a quick pint after visiting me in the hospital. It was dark and he missed the signs. On very expensive pint later, lesson learned don’t go to the Highwayman.

Met my needs as a solo traveler

I was looking for somewhere to stay for just one night whilst working in the area. I had a long drive and wasn’t after anything fancy, just somewhere that I could get my head down that was going to be comfortable and warm, better than sleeping in my car. This place matched that. I’d read the previous reviews and had very low expectations. They exceeded those. The room is very dated but it was comfortable and warm. I wouldn’t stay here with my partner, I wouldn’t stay here with friends. However, as a solo traveler looking for accommodation that provided for my individual basic needs, which also had a bar offering food if needed. This place ticked the boxes. The bar staff were very polite and friendly. The car park clearly stated that you must register your vehicle at the bar to avoid any fines. I did this, so hopefully I will not be harassed as previous guests (reviewers) have been with car parking issues

Avoid at all costs - sleep in your car, it's cleaner!

Probably the worst accommodation since living in a slit trench in the Falklands in 1982! If I could give it a minus rating I would.
