Great food and hospitality

We ate twice at this lovely country pub. Food was very tasty and plentiful. We ate off the specials menu - tasty curry and salmon dish. Also had lasagne off the main menu. The homemade ice cream was delicious - so yummy ( ginger especially). The owner, Peter, came and had a chat with us and him and his staff were very hospitable. We loved the shop there - such a great idea in this small village!

Fabulous place, amazing staff very friendly. Beds are really comfortable, food is very tasty. Will definitely stay again.

Friendly and welcoming pub

I stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend as I was going to the Harvest Celebration at the Newt.
I received a very warm welcome from a very helpful lady who led me to my room - one thing to mention is that the pub is VERY dog friendly and there was a definite doggy smell in my room and bathroom, but the rooms were clean and a quick spray round with my perfume and leaving the window open while I went out for the afternoon helped.
The other thing to mention is that I got back quite late (around 8pm) and parking was a big problem. There is parking for around 3 cars in front of the pub and an overflow car park just down the road, but that only has space for another couple of cars depending on how everyone parks, and as I was there Friday and Saturday everywhere was packed. However I managed to find somewhere to park on a housing estate up the road.
Although on a busy road, the room was cosy, and the bed was so comfortable and I was so tired from lots of walking and lovely fresh Somerset air, I had a good night's sleep.
The TV remote control didn't work but I didn't think this was worth complaining about so I just operated the TV manually.
I would give this a 5 but there were in my opinion a couple of niggles.
It wouldn't stop me recommending the place though.

What a gem! 5⭐️➕

What a gem! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with warmth and friendliness. It was a super hot day and we arrived early evening so we made our way straight to the lovely garden area. The landlady was so friendly, stopping to chat to people and having real conversations, showing a genuine interest in everyone. The food was delicious and we can recommend the vegetarian curry and fish pie We stayed for one very comfortable night in their Poppy Room, followed by a tasty breakfast which set us up for the day ahead. Enjoyed a relaxed conversation in the morning with the landlord. I would definitely recommend the George for its welcoming vibe, relaxed atmosphere, sense of community, exceptional hosts, good food and the clean and comfortable accommodation.
