Definatly go to Blue Diamond Retreat if you want nature, peace and a great place to stay
Blue Diamond Retreat has been a great basecamp for 3 days of tours and experiences.
The staff is very nice and friendly - they will help you, support you and provide tours in the jungle and caves. The supervisors speak english. And the food is really good and plentyfull.
The accomodation is simple but clean and cosy. And the place is very quit! You hear the noises from the jungle but nothing else. Highly recommended!
If you want a quit and relaxing stay in Phong Nha, please try this.

A sad drop in standards
I first visited this resort two years ago and had a genuinely excellent experience. It was well maintained, tidy and clearly managed with pride. Sadly, my recent visit left me feeling that standards have declined significantly.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of general maintenance. The grass throughout the resort has been allowed to grow unchecked, which is concerning given the increased risk of snakes at this time of year. Throughout much of South East Asia, grass is usually kept short for exactly this reason. In several places, the grass has grown over the walkways, around the swings and along the connecting bridge.
The bridge itself has deteriorated noticeably. The steel support cables are fraying where guests naturally place their hands, and the wooden planks are beginning to show signs of wear and need replacing. Two years ago, the bridge and walkways were beautifully illuminated with LED lighting each evening, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Those lights are no longer switched on, leaving the resort feeling rather lifeless after dark.
Another disappointing change is the removal of the evening fire pit, which was one of the highlights of my previous stay. Likewise, the excellent barbecue experience has been replaced with a Vietnamese set menu. There is no menu available to show guests what will be served, and despite the reception displaying a menu featuring both Vietnamese and international dishes, these are apparently no longer available.
The swimming pool has also changed considerably. The attractive in ground pool has been replaced with an above ground pool, which I assume was intended to appeal to Western visitors who prefer to relax in the sun. That decision seems rather strange given that the resort no longer offers an international food menu. Unfortunately, the pool itself was dirty and, like the surrounding grounds, appeared to lack regular maintenance.
The activity equipment is left outside throughout the day and overnight, exposed to the weather. This suggests very little regard for maintaining expensive equipment. If this were my business, I would want to maximise the lifespan of those assets by storing them properly when not in use. Instead, it reflects the same lack of attention that seems evident throughout the resort.
The approach to the resort also creates a poor first impression. There are piles of scrap metal near the entrance, which immediately detract from what should be an attractive arrival. First impressions matter, and this gives the impression that appearances are no longer a priority.
The camping area has also changed considerably, with most of the camping pitches replaced by permanent rooms. This is not a criticism, simply an observation for returning visitors. The viewpoints are becoming overgrown, making them less enjoyable than they once were.
One aspect that particularly concerned me was the water activities. Guests wishing to swim or take part in activities on the water have to find a member of staff and request that they act as the lifeguard. In my view, a lifeguard should already be on duty whenever these facilities are available. Managing safety should be the responsibility of the resort, not the guests.
Looking back, I probably should have realised something had changed before arriving. The resort’s Facebook page showed very little engagement or response to enquiries, which in hindsight reflected the lack of attention that now seems evident throughout the property.
The only thing that has not changed is the stunning mountain scenery. The natural surroundings remain spectacular, but unfortunately they can no longer compensate for the noticeable decline in the resort itself.
There is still potential to enjoy a stay here, and with investment and proper management the resort could once again become the excellent destination it was. However, compared with the standards I experienced two years ago, it has fallen a long way. Sadly, I no longer feel it offers value for money, which is a real shame given how highly I once regarded
