Bivou : A Perfect Beginning and Ending to Our Yunnan Adventure! ❤️

It’s been 9 years since I last visited Lijiang, and this time I brought my friends to Shuhe—and The Bivou Lijiang was our first choice! Right from the moment we stepped in, we felt so welcomed and at home, enjoying homemade buckwheat cake and peanuts, plus drinks infused with garden-grown herbs from their farm right at the doorstep! The entire property is built in harmony with nature, filled with lush greenery and home to two lovely cats, Heimi and Baijiu, who have become part of the Bivou family. Our rooms were super cozy, and we loved our bathroom with a view! The welcome gifts of moisturizer and handmade lip balm were so thoughtful and also came in really handy.
We managed to explore Shuhe and Dayan thanks to the hand-drawn maps provided, and really enjoyed the food at the recommended eateries too. We especially loved the buffet breakfast spread (the kaya, Milo, homemade popped black rice, milk kefir, and plum jam are my favorites!), the rice noodle soup, and the rotating Western breakfast As it was mushroom season, we even bought some fresh mushrooms, and for a small fee, the kitchen Ayi helped prepare and cook a spectacular mushroom feast for us!
After a 4-night stay, we left for Shangri-La and Shaxi. Upon returning to The Bivou Lijiang for our final night, the warm welcome and familiarity made us feel like we were returning to our second home ❤️ We’re truly grateful to Hwee Ling and the Bivou team for paying attention to every little detail and going the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful vacation :) We’re so glad we started and ended our trip at The Bivou Lijiang—a perfect beginning and ending to our Yunnan adventure! We loved our stay so much that we are already planning to bring our families back for future trips!

Enjoyed the stay at Bivou

Went for a short trip with my girlfriends. Stayed for a couple of days at Bivou. The place is unique and comfortable. Got lots of interesting and unusual decorations. Room is well appointed. Service is excellent. Staff went above and beyond for us. They even sent a vehicle to pick up our luggage from the city gate as the hotel is located in the ancient part of town which is walking streets only. Hotel is very clean. Really liked the food in the Bivou restaurant too. They even fried the mushrooms we bought from outside. Easy access to the ancient Shu He town with all its food, attractions, and shopping.

Little paradise in Shuhe

This is a place to come back (and not want to leave).
What a wonderful stay we had again at The Bivou! All is well: in a beautiful quiet location in Shuhe with lots of greenery around it. We had a garden room with a private terrace overlooking the courtyard. The room itself is stylishly decorated and has a nice large bed and good sanitary facilities, nice soaps. There is also a fine cuisine with Asian and Western dishes. They have their own vegetable garden. And most important of all: very kind and caring people! Thank May and colleagues!

Wauw – ontzettend bedankt voor deze prachtige recensie!
We zijn ontzettend blij te lezen dat je je voelde als in een "klein paradijsje in Shuhe" – wat een mooi compliment! Het maakt ons zo gelukkig te horen dat je niet weg wilde en dat The Bivou voor jou een plek is om terug te komen. Dat is de grootste lof die we kunnen krijgen!
Fijn dat je genoten hebt van de rustige locatie, je tuinkamer met het eigen terrasje, de stijlvolle inrichting en het heerlijke grote bed – en ja, ook de goede zeepjes doen ertoe! Super dat je ook de keuken en de eigen groentetuin waardeert.
Maar het allerbelangrijkste: dankjewel dat je ons team noemt. May en de collega's sturen je een grote glimlach en een warme knuffel – we vonden het echt geweldig dat je er was.
Kom snel terug – je paradijsje wacht op je!

The Bivou A true gem in Shuhe!

A true gem in Shuhe! Will definitely return with family.I had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Bivou with a group of friends. I loved it so much that I am already planning a return trip here with my family.The location is fantastic, tucked away perfectly inside the charming Shuhe Old Town. It is peaceful yet very convenient. What really made our stay stand out was the incredible team—everyone on the staff was so warm, welcoming, and attentive. On top of the amazing hospitality, our rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained.Highly recommended for anyone visiting Lijiang, whether you are traveling with friends or planning a family vacation!

Boutique Experience

Beautiful boutique hotel right by the gate of Shuhe old town. Rustic surroundings with a lot of greenery, crops and nature and best of all, it is very quiet and peaceful at night.
We had their loft room which required climbing a flight of narrow steps so if mobility is an issue, do ask for a ground-level room. The room was very clean, very very comfortable and shower was excellent. The wifi signal was not great though and kept cutting out. The room came with a projector and iPad though you need to pay to view movies.
Staff here speak good English and are well trained. They communicated very regularly with us via WeChat which was great. However we did have a glitch with the tour we booked with them to Jade Mountain where they failed to tell us that we needed to board our cable car at a certain time. That caused a lot of stress on our end and theirs as well, but the staff did work hard to resolve the matter. The owner contacted us after the incident for service recovery which we are grateful for.
Didn’t get to try their breakfast as we were out early every morning - there was an option for packed breakfast which was jam/butter sandwiches, fruit and yogurt. Would be great if the packed breakfast was a bit more creative for those on the go.
Nonetheless, it was a comfortable and beautiful stay.

We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated the boutique character of our property, the tranquility of our location, and the comfort of our loft rooms—though we take your point about the narrow stairs of the loft room seriously. It is indeed an unusual room built upon the original century-old structures, and although it is one of the favourite rooms for our guests because of its authentic character, we understand that it may not work for everyone, especially those not used to climbing stairs. We have taken it off two of our most popular booking platforms in view of your feedback and will take care to advise future guests accordingly.
We’re especially grateful for your kind words about our team. It means a lot to know that their communication and language skills made you feel well cared for. while you were at the hotel. That said, we are sorry that you missed your original cable car timing for your Jade Mountain tour as our frontdesk staff failed to note that you didn't comprehend the information printed on your ticket due to the language barrier. We understand how stressful that must have been, and we’re glad our staff could step in to resolve the issue promptly. This was indeed an oversight as the majority of our guests who cannot understand Chinese tend to use our fully-guided tour instead of only the ticketing and driver services, to avoid the issues that you mentioned in terms of navigating through the park on your own, which can be very challenging indeed. At the moment, we have created comprehensive Lijiang Old Town and Shuhe Old Town hand-drawn maps and Restaurant guides as these places are easier for exploring on your own.
Regarding the Wi-Fi, we apologise that our staff were not aware of your issues regarding poor connectivity during your stay. While we have upgraded our network setup recently to improve stability, we are also aware that some issues regarding connectivity for our guests might have to do with accessing foreign sites that sit behind the firewall. Nonetheless, we are in the midst of reconsidering how we can present more in-room entertainment options for our guests of that special projector room.
As for the packed breakfast, we are really sorry to hear that you didn't manage to try our delicious Bivou Breakfast, with our Buffet spead as well as Daily Hot Breakfast, as these are the clear favorites of our guests. Your suggestion for an improved packed breakfsat is well taken; we’re exploring more varied and nutritious options for early risers, and we hope to surprise you with something better on a future visit.
