Lovely cross country skiing and walking holiday in Finland
We are a retired couple and recently stayed (end March 2026) at Lodge 67N at Akaslompolo, Northern Finland, for a week’s cross country skiing. This was our second trip to Akaslompolo in 7 years. I highly recommend Lodge 67N as ideal accommodation within the ‘village’ confines. A small, family run hotel/hostel, very friendly, very helpful, close to the ski tracks, easy walking distance to the main ‘village’ facilities. Peaceful place with a lovely atmosphere and staff and very well appointed facilities.
We flew into Kittila airport and used a hire coach to pick us up and drop us off at the Lodge door. 40 minutes drive.
Our room was clean, tidy, space enough to spread out and included a kitchenette.
I hired skis from the local ski hire shop, two minutes walk away. Great quality skis and waxed up on collection. A waxing service was also available but with my past experience in waxing skis I made use of the waxing room facilities at the Lodge which were perfect for the job.
My wife walked and I skied. The tracks for both walking and skiing were in very good condition not two minutes walk from the Lodge. The tack groomers, at least three of them, were out every morning at 6 to cut fresh tracks. (The grooming progress can be followed on a live map app, worth getting) I skied early most mornings on perfect, fast, empty tracks through gorgeous wooden scenery. Late morning the tracks filled up but the quality of skiing experience is high in Finland and most skiers know what they are about.
A generous breakfast was included at the Lodge. You could sneak in a pack lunch sandwich or for lunch we stopped off at track side cafes or the community cafe at the local supermarket for lovely soup and bread. We also took advantage of lovely freshly pre-cooked meals sold in the super market. Boxed up with a bottle of wine they were still hot by the time we reached our room where we had some very nice evening meals. Eating out options are also plentiful.
Akaslompolo is not glitzy, or a high tempo boozy resort but great for skiing. The Lappish Finns are reserved, friendly, understated, chilled, steady individuals but very welcoming and engage with visitors. Good peoplle to have on your side.
Not a cheap or budget holiday. We had two flights each way from Northern Ireland. All inclusive with our spending money the holiday cost us £4,000. Not something we could do too often but we will be going again once it gathers. And we will stay at Lodge 67N.

We couldn’t have asked for anything more
Location- perfect for the experience! It wasn’t commercialised, was only a 5min walk to the main supermarket, pub and restaurant, if needed but we didn’t go out for food and drink. Stunning, surrounded by forestry. The atmosphere was everything I was hoping for- welcoming, chilled, everything went at your pace. Lodge 67 was very traditional and authentic with something in every nook and cranny, but presented with a modern, stylish twist. We stayed in the apartment and our first words were “wow!” We had our own entrance where we could take off and hang all our outdoor clothes, a private sauna and lovely showers. Each bedroom had comfy beds, plenty of space, double wardrobes and a dryer wardrobe for your clothes if needed!! Kitchen was well equipped and the lounge and table area were just gorgeous. We couldn’t have stayed in a better place, and my partner is fussy! It was all great value. The food was wholesome as expected after a day in the cold, and there was always plenty.

Amazing Retreat - modern, clean, designed, central location, walk to restaurants, trails, shops. Book it if you can.
We booked directly with the property by telephone. These people couldn't have been more helpful and the place was so beautiful. We stayed in the 'apartment', which has two large bedrooms, of which we used one. Large, modern sauna, w 2 showers, and nice sitting area next to sauna or outside. Built for winter and skiing w cloths drying cabinets popular in Finland. Large TV, modern kitchen, design lighting, furniture and fixtures. And walking distance to swim in lake and to hiking trails, which we were after. Dishwasher was nice too as we were there 3 days and 2 nights. Walk to 'well' restaurant/bar where we had take out burgers (also a 10/10 experience) and also walk to large shopping complex, with grocery, post, gas, and electric car charger. Beds were exceptionally comfortable and we were just so pleased at how new, fresh and clean everything was. And a helpful reception staff, ready with advice on berries and beaches. A famous winter ski resort (which we have done years ago) and a delightful summer retreat because the areas is well serviced and a hiking and trail-bicycle centre.

Friendly, persona and authentic
In short we didn't know what to expect and we absolutely loved it. It was our first time in Yllas after several years in Saasriselka where we've always stayed in hotels. What the lodge offered was something much more personal but without being intrusive. The staff are exceptional in their warmth and the place feels cosy and authentic as well as being clean and well maintained. The breakfast was healthy and generous; porridge, muesli, cheese, fresh yoghurt and bread, boiled eggs and of course coffee. The lodge is 3 minutes walk from the cross country tracks and 12 minutes from the supermarket if you're cooking your own evening meals as we did one several nights. Our one minor reservation was that the men's and women's saunas are separate. Overall though it's excellent.

Lovely holiday experience
Very cozy place, warm athmosphere, extremely friendly and nice staff. The breakfast was delicious and the room clean and tidy with a nice view. The fat bikes provided were convenient. Also the saunas felt absolutely relaxing after the days spent on the skiing tracks.
