I would get a private bathroom next time

Nice little place in a great location. You can walk to the key areas of SJO from the hostel. We had the private room on the ground level next to reception but the only problem was that the only available shower for us was upstairs in the shared dorm. Nice patio to eat and chill

Best place in town

Close to everything but also quiet and peaceful being right across the street from a beautiful park. Jonathan is very friendly and helpful and treats everyone like family. It is close to Calderon Guardia hospital with plenty of coffee shops, sodas and restaurants within walking distance. If you prefer eating in, the hostel has a large well equipped kitchen at your disposal. The rooms and public areas are always spotless. I have now stayed there 30 times and would never stay anywhere else in San José.

Home away from home

I had a wonderful three night stay at Casa Del Parque, the hostel is in a converted heritage building which I'm sure has a lot of history too. I stayed in a private double room downstairs which was a grand, beautiful room. I would have been very comfortable there for a week or two if necessary. It was a little cold at night but with an extra couple of blankets it was all good. I would stay there again if I return to San Jose. Jonatan was a super friendly host and helped me a lot with organising bus travel to my next destination as well as booking Uber taxis for me on his account as I didn't have a smartphone to do it myself. Mil gracias amigo, pura vida!

Don't Stay Here

-The rooms are basic and cold inside.
-They put about 10 people in one room with one bathroom which is awful.
-They don't provide a key to the dorm room so you have to hope and wish someone is there to let you in.
I've stayed here before and I wish someone would of given me a heads up about how terrible it is. They provided horrible customer service. I won’t be booking this hostel anymore because the customer service is horrible aside from the lacking accommodations. I booked Hostel Casa Del Parque and they never replied to my emails about my reservation. When they finally did reply I received a very unprofessional email from them along with them canceling my reservation. I was in the airport in another country waiting to go to Hostel Casa Del Parque when suddenly they emailed me at night after not replying to any of my emails for almost a day saying that they canceled my reservation. This was a horrible experience and completely unreliable. The manager also harassed me. The manager is rude and miserable and should work on his mental health. There are so many other places in San Jose, much nicer and inexpensive places as well, don’t stay here, I learned the lesson for you.

Facility is run down, dirty, and badly configured. Stay elsewhere.

The facility as a whole is very rundown and dingy and does not appear to have received any meaningful maintenance in decades. Both the private rooms and dorms are damp and moldy, the linens in both are consistently stained, torn, and often burned. Most dorm windows don't open and during our stay multiple toilets were not functioning.
The "Five Bed" dorm is in reality a converted carport with six beds and no door from the rest of the hostel and only a garage door (and SUV) between it and a loud and busy street and train line. It is also out of range of the Wifi, and only has three outlets in the room.
The out door and common spaces leave much to be desired, the court yard has a tattered shade shelter and the indoor common spaces are made up of two couches one in the entryway and a table with few outlets, or abilities to gather as a group.
Guests staying in dorms to not receive keys and have to buzz in past the gate and front door which often takes some time as there is only one staff member on at any time.
Rooms, including dorms, are only cleaned when there are check outs and even then it is only to change the sheets and empty the bathroom trash. As a result the floors are dirty, any trash/litter that is left remains until cleaned by guests.
Do yourself a favor and stay at one of the other great hostels in SJO (Hostel Selina, Stray Cat ect).
