Swam a Mile Before Caviar for Breakfast

Lovely hotel! (It is a big hotel ergo worth doing reconn upon arrival to find the gym, pool, etc.) I swam a mile one morning and did a room workout the next as the gym gets busy and is a bit of a trek. The breakfast is exquisite— enjoyed smoked salmon, caviar, and other delicacies each morning. The service is excellent across the board, one highlight being offered a glass of fresh squeezed carrot juice. Elegant and comfy bed. Great room and bathroom lighting. The lightly scented products remind me of the now discontinued Coriander lotion Kiehl’s used to sell.

Should change Name From Shangrila To Shame La

One of the worst Shangrila ever. My stay at Shangri-La Ulaanbaatar was deeply disappointing. I ordered in-room dining, and the food arrived absolutely cold after more than an hour and without any accompaniments sauces— a clear sign of indifference. The only two of the vegetarian options weren’t available What made the experience worse was the attitude. of the kitchen staff. While they didn’t outright say anything offensive, their behavior made it clear that if you don’t eat beef, you’re simply disregarded. They refused to offer any substitutions or alternatives, leaving the impression that guest preferences or dietary needs were not respected at all.
Even basic requests were met with resistance. When we asked for more tea sachets, we were refused on the grounds that “housekeeping services were provided only twice in a day and absolutely not after 6:00 pm.” For a hotel claiming five-star standards, this lack of flexibility and care is shocking.
To be fair, the Assistant Night Duty Manager did all in her capacity to placate us, and her professionalism stood out in contrast to the rest of the experience. Unfortunately, one person’s effort cannot make up for the dismissive approach, poor service, and cold food that defined our stay.
Hospitality should mean attentiveness, respect, and genuine care, but here it felt more like arrogance and neglect. I would not recommend Shangri-La Ulaanbaatar to anyone expecting a Professional and welcoming Service.

Excellent experience

This is an excellent hotel, well-located in the city centre and providing a very comfortable, quiet and attentive stay for guests. Dining options are great and the lobby cafe also provides a relaxing space and delicious cakes. Staff were consistently polite and eager to assist. My only complaint was that the hotel uses a public gym in the shopping mall which the hotel is connected to. The gym is large and fantastically equipped but it is also so busy in the evenings that it was impossible to get access to any weights machines or equipment - even just walking around in the crowds was hard. Hotel guests with the option should therefore go in the morning or afternoon. City traffic is heavy and walking was by far the easiest way to get to and from meetings. Airport transfers can take 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the time and day.

Shangri-La Ulanbatar truly lives up to the Shangri-La standard. The rooms are superb—spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. Overall, a very satisfying stay.

Staff service not up to 5 star hotel standard. Dining quality poor especially for room service foods. Toilet flushing water not enough to clean up properly
