Thank you for the missed charge!

I would like to give a great review to this hotel not because I stayed, but because it canceled my reservation without charge of the penalty! They cancelled our flight and we asked the kindness not to charge us the penalty, which is not obvious in other hotels. Thanks to the owner!

Romantic ambience

The ambience in the inn and in the hotel is simply romantic and beautiful. Everything in the house is fitting, very tasteful. On the mezzanine floors without rooms there is a small museum. It is very quiet, so you can sleep with the window open. Very good pillows and mattresses.
The food in the restaurant was lovingly prepared and tasted great. We had half board. As a greeting from the kitchen there was wild garlic cream with bread, as a starter carrot and orange soup, as a main course vegetable bolognese with tagliatelle and as a dessert homemade raspberry ice cream with cream. The portions were very generous. Everything tasted excellent. The staff were very attentive and very friendly. There was a good atmosphere in this service team.
The breakfast was also good. There was homemade jam, which tasted excellent.
We can fully recommend this lovingly decorated hotel and the inn.

Very romantic

A very nice little hotel in the heart of the old town of Kastellaun in the Hunsrück
Between Rhine and Mosel.
Good buffet style breakfast (included), nice room with a lot of wood interieur,
TV, free WLan
Romantic Biergarten-Restaurant . You have to make a reservation - always busy.
Bottle of regional Devon Riesling, dry , very good € 21,50
Wiener Schnitzel € 13,80
Gefillte Klies (dumplings filled with Leberwurst & Meat) in red wine-bacon-sauce -
excellent! A must! € 12,50
After dinner a Ketten-Fett-Liquor is perfect.A black licorice

Better than our high expectations

To arrive to Altes Stadttor after a journey with car was like arriving to “paradise”. We saw the old hotel building, our room with all modern facilities, the restaurant with our name on a nice table, and the garden, with outdoor tables.
We were served a surprise dinner as half board, and we did really enjoy the meal. The car was parked in a safe garage.
Kastellaun and Altes Stadttor is well worth to return to.

Amazing Hotel

Both the building and the people were exceptional. Our room in the beautifully restored historic building was welcoming and spacious; both impressive and cozy. The owner who checked us in was a pleasure to work with, and made sure we got a table at their very good and lively restaurant that evening. The personal touch of signed wishing each guest a good morning at breakfast was a great way to start the morning.
We stayed here while visiting the Mosel Valley, Eltz Castle, and Geierlay Bridge (with hiking). The location was a short and pretty drive from all.
We hope to be back.
