An absolutely magical stay ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The pool is breathtaking, a true haven of peace where you feel instantly at ease. The staff are wonderfully kind and attentive, with a special mention for Enas, who made our stay even more memorable with her care and warmth.
The spa also deserves high praise: we enjoyed a truly sublime couple's massage, a real moment of shared wellbeing. The team showed constant attention to our every need, and we were even able to enjoy a late check-out that extended this enchanted parenthesis.
The Chedi Muscat is much more than a hotel, it's an experience in itself. We're leaving with wonderful memories and can't wait to come back!

A Truly Special Two-Week Stay – Exceptional Staff and Outstanding Club Benefits
Overall Experience
We stayed at The Chedi Muscat for two weeks and absolutely loved it. Before arriving, we wondered whether fourteen nights at one hotel might become repetitive, but we did not get bored once. Between the three pools, private beach, beautiful gardens, restaurants, Club Lounge and the many peaceful areas around the resort, every day felt slightly different.
What truly sets The Chedi apart, however, is its people. We still cannot quite believe how many members of staff knew our names. It never felt forced or as though a computer system had simply told them who we were; it felt genuine.
By the end of our stay, the hotel had developed an almost family atmosphere. Leaving felt more like saying goodbye to people we had come to know than simply checking out of a hotel.
Hotel Quality and Atmosphere
The hotel and its grounds are stunning. The architecture, reflecting pools, immaculate gardens, palm trees and long views towards the sea create an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. Although the resort is large, it rarely feels busy or impersonal.
We visited during low season, so occupancy was low and The Restaurant was the principal indoor restaurant open in the evening. We actually enjoyed the additional tranquillity this created.
The weather was extremely hot, regularly exceeding 40°C during our stay. Despite the intense heat, the pools, shaded areas, chilled towels, cold drinks and attentive service made it completely manageable.
The hotel originally opened in 2003, and its minimalist design has aged remarkably well. There are naturally some signs of age in places, but nothing felt neglected. The entire property remained beautifully presented and exceptionally clean.
Staff and Service
The staff were exceptional throughout the hotel. Everyone was welcoming, friendly and genuinely interested in making our stay special. They remembered our names, our preferences and often seemed to know what we needed before we asked.
Kalthum from Customer Relations deserves a special mention for helping us feel so welcomed and cared for throughout our stay.
One of the classiest moments of our holiday was when the General Manager, Mahmoud Sakr, personally came and joined us for coffee. For the General Manager of a hotel of this size and quality to take the time to sit with guests and have a genuine conversation was an incredibly thoughtful touch.
It said a great deal about the culture of the hotel and the standards being set from the top.
The Restaurant and Its Wonderful Team
The Restaurant team played a huge part in making our holiday so memorable.
Adil, Suresh, El Mustafa, Vina, Mani, Bala, Soniyja and Shady were all fantastic. They were friendly, attentive and professional, but also incredibly warm and personal.
They remembered our preferences, took the time to speak with us and made every meal feel relaxed and welcoming. After two weeks, we genuinely looked forward to seeing them each day.
Kishor Chef was exceptional. The quality and consistency of the food throughout our stay were outstanding, and his talent was clear across the wide variety of dishes we enjoyed.
We ate everything from Western, Middle Eastern and Indian food to Asian dishes and room service, and the standard remained excellent.
It is difficult to maintain that level of quality and variety throughout a two-week stay, but Kishor Chef and the wider kitchen team achieved it.
Breakfast and Dining
Breakfast was outstanding.
There was an excellent buffet and continental selection, including fruit, pastries, breads, cereals, cold items and many other choices. Freshly prepared eggs and other breakfast dishes could also be ordered directly from the kitchen, ensuring they arrived freshly cooked and exactly as requested.
The combination of the buffet and freshly prepared dishes meant breakfast never became repetitive, even during a fourteen-night stay.
We ate extensively around the hotel and also made very good use of room service. The range of Western, Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian and Japanese food meant there was always something different to try.
Although The Restaurant was the principal evening restaurant open during the quieter low-season period, there was enough variety that we never became tired of the food.
Do not overlook the sweet and chocolate section inside The Restaurant. Guests can buy chocolates to take away, which is a lovely extra and something that could easily be missed.
The Club Lounge and Lobby Bar
We would strongly recommend booking a room or suite with Club Lounge access. It added an enormous amount to our stay and was worth every penny.
The Lounge is a beautiful and peaceful space offering refreshments throughout the day, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapés.
Mharwan, Richard and Mercy made the Club Lounge and Lobby Bar feel particularly special. Their service was professional, warm and incredibly personal.
Richard deserves a very special mention. He was exceptionally attentive throughout our stay and always seemed to notice when we needed something, often before we had even asked.
He was friendly, engaging and made every visit to the Club Lounge feel relaxed and welcoming.
His cocktails were amazing and consistently one of the highlights of our evenings. He clearly took great pride in what he created and always made the experience feel personal rather than simply serving a standard drink.
Richard is a real asset to The Chedi. His friendliness, attention to detail and ability to make guests feel completely at ease perfectly reflect the level of service that makes the hotel so special.
Mharwan’s warmth, including the pleasure of meeting his daughter, added to the genuine family feeling that developed during our stay. Mercy was equally attentive and welcoming and helped make every visit to the Lounge enjoyable.
The Club Lounge became one of our favourite places in the hotel, not simply because of the food and drinks, but because of the people working there.
The Laundry Benefit
One of the best Club benefits was the allowance of up to fifteen items of laundry per day.
This was amazing, particularly during a two-week summer stay. In temperatures above 40°C, clothes quickly become warm or sweaty, even after a relatively short walk outside.
Being able to have laundry cleaned every day meant we did not need to pack nearly as much, always had fresh pool and evening clothes available, did not have damp or worn clothing accumulating in the suite, and returned home without a mountain of holiday washing.
For anyone staying for more than a few days, this is a genuinely valuable benefit rather than simply a minor luxury.
Our Suite
Our suite was spacious, comfortable and kept immaculately clean.
Housekeeping was excellent, bottled water was constantly replenished and we would occasionally return after turndown to find a small gift or thoughtful surprise waiting for us.
The minibar drinks were complimentary as part of our package and replenished regularly. The suite also had full-sized bottles or decanters of spirits rather than miniature bottles, together with fruit, nuts and other snacks.
The room was beginning to show some signs of age, but that is completely understandable for a hotel that opened in 2003.
Nothing felt dirty or poorly maintained; some of the fittings and technology simply reflect the age of the property.
The television had a good selection of films and access to YouTube, which we enjoyed. However, the entertainment system was not quite as advanced as those found in some newer hotels, where guests can access streaming services such as Apple TV or cast directly from their own devices.
An updated casting or app-based television system would be a worthwhile future improvement.
One practical point is that the suites are located in separate buildings away from the main hotel. This gives them privacy and makes them feel more exclusive, but guests should bear in mind that they will need to walk outside to reach The Restaurant and Club Lounge.
Normally this would be a lovely walk through the gardens. However, in temperatures above 40°C, even a relatively short walk can feel significant.
Pools, Beach and Facilities
The pools are a major reason why a longer stay at The Chedi works so well.
The Long Pool is visually spectacular and exceptionally peaceful. The team there, including Adham, Jonathan and Leicester, were attentive and professional.
Iced water was regularly provided, and a buzzer was available whenever we required anything else.
The service style at the Long Pool was more discreet than at the Serai Pool. This is not a criticism, simply an observation. The Long Pool is intended to be calm, quiet and almost zen-like, so the less proactive approach may well be deliberate.
At the Serai Pool, the team seemed to know exactly when we needed something without us having to call them. They brought genuinely fresh lemonade and provided a slightly more proactive level of attention.
Both pool experiences were excellent, but in different ways.
Throughout our stay, the pool teams also handed out iced flannels, ice lollies and freshly chopped chilled fruit.
These were small but wonderful touches in the intense summer heat and showed how much thought had gone into keeping guests comfortable.
There is also the private beach, spacious lawns, shaded seating and numerous quiet corners throughout the grounds. The variety of areas available was one of the main reasons we never became bored during our two-week stay.
The hotel also has peacocks. They may not always be walking through the main guest areas, but guests can ask the staff where they are and arrange to have a look.
This was another charming and unusual part of the hotel.
The Cigar Lounge and Boutique
The cigar lounge was another exceptionally cool part of the hotel.
It had a wonderfully atmospheric and sophisticated feel and was a great place to sit, relax and enjoy a drink. Even for guests who are not regular cigar smokers, it is worth having a look, as it adds another completely different space and experience to the resort.
The hotel boutique was also surprisingly useful.
As well as attractive gifts and luxury items, it stocked a good selection of practical essentials, which was particularly helpful during a two-week stay.
We were delighted to find the famous Oman Chips available, alongside a large selection of Amouage perfumes.
Amouage is such an important Omani fragrance house, so being able to explore its perfumes within the hotel was a lovely touch and made the boutique feel genuinely connected to Oman rather than like a generic hotel shop.
An Unforgettable Day with Ghaith
One of the absolute highlights of our holiday was an unforgettable full-day trip organised through The Chedi with the outstanding Ghaith.
Ghaith took us from the hotel to Nizwa and then into the mountains to Al Jabal Al Akhdar, the beautiful Green Mountain. It was a wonderful journey and gave us the opportunity to experience a completely different side of Oman.
However, what made the day truly special was Ghaith himself.
He was endlessly polite, thoughtful, generous and attentive. He looked after us with genuine care throughout the entire journey and always made sure that we were comfortable, relaxed and enjoying ourselves.
Ghaith did far more than simply drive us between destinations. He shared his knowledge of Oman, explained the places we visited and showed us the very best of Omani hospitality.
He also took us to a wonderful little roadside shop that felt completely authentic and was clearly somewhere local Omani people visited for everyday items, gifts and interesting bits and pieces. Experiences like this made the day feel personal and genuine rather than like a standard organised tour.
His warmth and friendliness made the long journey enjoyable, and spending the day with him felt more like travelling with a trusted friend than being taken around by a hotel driver.
Ghaith is an absolute credit and a tremendous asset not only to The Chedi Muscat, but to Oman itself. He represents everything that is so special about Omani hospitality: kindness, generosity, pride in his country and a genuine desire to make visitors feel welcome.
The day gave us memories we will always treasure, and we cannot thank Ghaith enough for making it so special.
Concierge and Transportation
The concierge team, including Issam, Mafoodh and Sulayman, were excellent.
They were helpful, knowledgeable and always willing to assist with arrangements or questions.
We also used transportation supplied by the hotel on other occasions, and the cars were on another level. They were luxurious, immaculate and incredibly comfortable, with equally professional service.
The journeys felt like part of the overall hotel experience rather than simply transportation from one place to another.
Grounds and Maintenance Observations
The gardens are outstanding and clearly require a huge amount of work to maintain. Everything was beautifully presented.
One thing that surprised us was the continued use of fairly loud petrol-powered gardening equipment.
In such a peaceful resort, modern battery-powered equipment could reduce both noise and fumes and would seem more in keeping with the tranquil surroundings.
Maintenance obviously has to take place, and we had no issue with work being carried out. However, on occasion we noticed electrical leads stretched across paths or routed through doorways.
Introducing more cordless equipment, together with proper cable ramps or temporary barriers where cables are unavoidable, would improve both presentation and safety.
These are constructive observations rather than complaints and did not spoil our stay.
Water on Arrival
Possibly because it was low season and our suite block had not been heavily occupied, we initially had to run the water for some time before it became properly hot.
The water was also slightly discoloured when first drawn, although it cleared after flushing.
This did not become an ongoing problem and did not affect our enjoyment of the stay.
However, a simple pre-arrival flushing and temperature-check regime for suites that have been unoccupied would prevent this and improve the guest’s first impression.
Final Verdict
The Chedi Muscat is a genuinely special hotel.
It has beautiful architecture, exceptional grounds, wonderful pools, excellent food, atmospheric spaces such as the cigar lounge, memorable experiences and outstanding Club benefits.
However, its greatest asset is unquestionably its people.
Mahmoud Sakr, Kalthum, Adil, Suresh, El Mustafa, Vina, Mani, Bala, Soniyja, Shady, Kishor Chef, Mharwan, Richard, Mercy, Issam, Mafoodh, Sulayman, Ghaith, Adham, Jonathan and Leicester all contributed to making our holiday something we will always remember.
They did not simply provide good service. They made us feel known, welcomed and cared for.
There are a few areas where the hotel could modernise, particularly the television technology, grounds-maintenance equipment and pre-arrival flushing of less frequently occupied rooms.
None of these points came close to outweighing our overwhelmingly positive experience.
We loved our stay and would return without hesitation.
The Club Lounge and Club Suite experience are thoroughly recommended, especially for anyone planning a longer stay.

Calmness in a crisis
The actions of the staff was truly amazing and we cannot thank them enough for their kindness and efficiency. the gentleman on the concierge desk in national dress, sorry I did not make a note of your name, but your help in calling Oman Air for us to find out if we could simply change an existing booking or buy new tickets helped us immensely. Suresh in the restaurant your kind words were of a great comfort, and to the front desk manager, Danish, and your staff thank you for making it all happen smoothly and we were on a flight home 6 hours after getting the call
Hotels can have the most luxurious rooms and amenities but it is the staff that elevate hotels to greatness.
This was not our first stay in the Chedi, and it will not be our last, we hope to be able to thank you all in person soon.
