Perfect location for a city break
Occidental Alicante.
The location of this hotel is great. So easy to get to on the airport bus or by taxi. It’s on a one way street and drivers seem to like their horn here.
Check in was smooth and very grateful for a complimentary bottle of water. The lifts were small and hot but air con in the rest of the hotel is awesome.
The room which was 401 was reasonable for a city break. We liked the fridge to store water in. The beds were big and roomy. The bathroom surprisingly had a bath which was unexpected but the toilet beating so close to the door was a pain. The air con was great. We had a view over to 3 walls with some fish. There was a full sized mirror, the safe was free and the wardrobe was enough for our time there. Although there was a hairdryer in the bathroom, it did not work. However there was one in the wardrobe. But we didn’t use it. House keeping did a great job every day and were very pleasant. We heard very little noise not even from rooms round about or up above.
We took breakfast when booking. It’s not a massive buffet but has plenty choice, from fresh fruit and yoghurts, cold meats and cheese. Breads, hot buffet which changed daily. Cereals and pastries. Tea and coffee and cold juices too. I found it to be a great selection and filled us up well. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Check out was very easy too and a short walk to the bus stop back to the airport. For a city break the hotel and location were perfect. It was definitely a good choice.
The location is very walkable to the castles, to the old town and down to the marina and beach. Public transport and taxis are frequent and not far to the station to get a train to other places.

Generally good standard with clean modern rooms.
Quite a small establishment with few facilities except for a Breakfast Room and Snack Shop - no bar etc.
Free tea & coffee in reception for guests.
I was originally allocated a room with an interior facing window that was tinted so no view or natural daylight.
Whilst there was nothing wrong with the room itself, it was like a prison cell and it felt constantly like it was nighttime.
This is not a cheap establishment and nowhere on the website is it made clear or illustrated that you may be allocated a room like this.
The first morning I complained to reception and at first they said i could not move as the hotel was full until the last day.
Eventually after some backwards and forwards they offered me a new room overlooking the street which was much more pleasant. For this i am grateful.
The hotel is centrally located just around the corner from most of the bars and restaurants. The promenade is also around 5-10 mins walk away.
This is a pleasant hotel but i felt had limited facilities for a chain due to the size of the hotel.
There is great cocktail bar next door called Oculto and the Mr Rachette Cheese Bar is also recommended.

Great trip
Great location to explore Alicante and the surrounding areas. A stones throw from all the top restaurants and bars and a 10 minute walk to the beach. Clean, tidy, quiet, comfortable stay. Would not hesitate to stay again. Very helpful staff.

Worst experience
The worst I have ever experienced after booking my room with a view was so happy going back to that hotel. But upon arrival and seen the room they gave me was horrible, the toilet not even a place to hang your clothes everything outdated and old

Good hotel
The hotel has perfect location, in the center and close the beach. Rooms are decent size but many have windows to inner backyard so barely no daylight- but also no noise. Breakfast is ok, but the food is not fresh- made there. Pastries taste like from some multi packs from supermarket, sandwiches had not fresh bread. Coffee is good. Usually breakfasts in Barcelo hotels are amazing, here it s just ok..receptionists are helpfull. I asked for late check out -14:00- and it was possible.
