Matthew is the best. His amazing customer service made our stay extra special. I do wish they had complimentary water bottles in the room but other than that everything was great. Great location, great rooftop bar, great clean large nice hotel rooms.

Terrifying experience and awful management.

Terrifying experience and awful management.
I'll start with the terrifying - we woke up at 3AM because of the smell of smoke. I looked out the window, quiet street, I checked our hallway, clear. I called the front desk and the person on duty repeatedly mumbled that "something was being shredded and maybe some paper got caught, but there is no fire." The smell got stronger and stronger (we were on the 6th floor in a room with windows that were sealed shut). Needless to say, we never went back to sleep.
When we checked out the next morning I mentioned this to the people at the desk, they had no idea and nothing on record about the incident. Another guest at the desk stated they also woke from the smoke, on the 3rd floor. The desk people just shrugged and ignored the concern.
We should have known this would be a lousy hotel when we checked in.
My husband and I arrived at the hotel having booked through the American Express Platinum Travel platform. We had requested a late check-out upon booking and the hotel immediately responded "if available." When I asked about the late checkout, the desk clerk, said "you booked through Expedia, so that's not an option." I showed him the email that the hotel sent, via Amex, and he said that Amex books through Expedia - Not true!
VERY INEXPERIENCED staff on every level. I do NOT recommend staying - EVER.

The boutique hotel of choice in the Third Ward: impeccable service and lively atmosphere

The Kimpton Journeyman is undoubtedly the place to stay if you visit Milwaukee with a focus on design, service, and location. The boutique hotel is located in the heart of the historic Third Ward, just a short walk from restaurants, shops, the Milwaukee Public Market, and the lakeshore. The staff is extraordinarily attentive — from the bellhops to the bartenders to the General Manager who personally responds to every review — and the pet-friendly policy is greatly appreciated. Some minor issues with prices and other aspects do not detract from an overall high-level experience.
Excellent location in the Third Ward: everything is within walking distance — restaurants, shops, museums, lake
Staff universally praised: friendly, attentive, caring, from check-in to room service
The Outsider rooftop bar: breathtaking views of Milwaukee, excellent cocktails, lively atmosphere — a must-visit
Tre Rivali (street-level restaurant): quality Mediterranean cuisine appreciated by guests
Elegant rooms, carefully furnished with attention to detail; very comfortable beds
Pet-friendly at the highest level: dogs welcomed with treats, cuddles, and even their name on a board
Rooms near the lobby may be disturbed by lobby music even during late hours
Parking is only available via valet service, with high costs for Milwaukee standards
Breakfast is not included in the price — it is sold separately à la carte
The artificial fragrance spread throughout the premises may be excessive for those with olfactory sensitivities
➡️ Great for romantic stays, anniversaries, weddings, corporate events, and trips with pets
Prices in the mid-high range ($180–300+/night)
✅ Recommended for: couples, business travelers, boutique design lovers, those traveling with dogs, those wanting to explore the Third Ward on foot

Almost the best out of the worst choices….

This place is weird. The hotel is relatively clean so I can’t give it 2 stars….the staff is a little odd, aside from Yesenia and CJ in the restaurant and Luis and Matt at the bell desk/front entry everyone else is pretty odd and lacking real customer service. The roof top bartenders are pretty rude….not to mention incredibly slow. It’s nearly impossible to find any type of snacks near by. It was even impossible to get a bottle of sparkling water in the hotel after 8pm, the front desk didn’t know San Pellegrino is a sparkling water. So I wouldn’t really recommend even coming to Milwaukee as it seems like the town is completely vacant so I guess if you were forced to have to be here the kimpton would be acceptable to stay it. Don’t even come to Milwaukee though, strange place, the entire town is dead, almost every service employee including most the kimpton seem to be a bit put out when it comes to actually providing customer service.

Great service and location. Very clean!

Beautiful boutique hotel, perfect location, easy walk to a lot of restaurants! Very professional and friendly staff. We will definitely come back!
