The bedding and rooms were cozy. The staff are very helpful. The showers and bathrooms were always clean.

Spending a few nights in this hotel felt like I was living in a different timeline, since the infrastructure looked a bit worn and there were individual shower rooms outside of the hotel rooms.

The street felt safe enough for being on the northern border of the Tenderloin. The hotel was a bit run down, but clean. You get what you pay for. It's inexpensive for a reason.

Unsafe, Unclean, and Unfit for Guests – Luz Hotel Nightmare

Upon arrival, Luz Hotel turned out to be far below even the minimum standards of hygiene and habitability. The entire hotel and our room had a strong, unpleasant odor. The floors were sticky and dirty, the nightstands were stained, flies were buzzing around, and the bed felt unclean, with no fresh linens, the sheets that were there even had brown streaks on them. The door to our room wouldn’t lock properly. To make matters worse, the hotel owner was walking barefoot through the property, which made us question the hygiene even more. It felt completely unsafe and unsanitary, putting our health and safety at risk.
We reported all this immediately to the owner, but he claimed there was nothing he could do and told us we had to resolve it with Booking.com since we booked through them. We were offered no solution or help from the hotel itself.
Due to this awful situation, we were forced to find another hotel at short notice. After searching for alternatives, we ended up booking a room at the Warwick San Francisco, as the other two options we considered were even more expensive.
I find it unacceptable that Booking.com still lists this property. I hope they implement better quality checks so other travelers are spared this terrible experience. Never again Luz Hotel
