Warm welcome
The B&B was very well organised and the hosts welcoming. Our room was spacious and clean. It had a separate modern bathroom, across the landing, for our exclusive use. When we visited, the owners were not doing evening meals due to Covid, so we had to make our way to a local pub down the road. Breakfast was excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

Lovely host, good spot, but get a back bedroom.
Stayed here two nights.
Anthony is lovely, and it’s like staying with a friend. Breakfast ordered the night before and top breakfast. Rooms spotless and a decent size. Did not use the tv and Wi-Fi seemed to work ok, just to check messages, mail. We did not stream anything.
It would have got 5 stars, but for the road noise.
If you kept the windows shut, there is double glazing and a further glaze, you will not hear the main road. This would be fine in winter. If you want some air flow, and are in a side room, this is not for you. Road noise stopped at 2.30 and back at 4.30am.
I would return but only in a back bedroom.

good time
stayed for 2 nights. room was nice, bed comfortable ,good night sleep and wonderful breakfast. interesting host. we really enjoyed our stay. at last found some where good to stay in the area. We will be back again

Will definitely be staying again!
Stayed at Mayertorne Cottage for two nights to attend a graduation at RAF Halton! Myself and my dad stayed in a twin room with en-suite. Lovely couple who own the cottage and they serve a 10/10 breakfast with the best coffee I have ever had! The room was lovely and comfortable with a brand new shower room which was clean with a powerful shower. The dogs are gorgeous with overall a fantastic stay. We will definitely book here again!! Thankyou Anthony!!

Good intentions, misguided and dated
As I stay in the area for work regularly I wanted to reduce my expenses and tried this B&B at £85 a night. The couple running it are lovely but have set it up as if you are a member of family staying over; the 'bathrobes' they make reference to are actually old and dated dressing gowns, probably their old ones (see photo), the wi-fi is basic capability and you are asked not to download or stream anything as it will crash the system, the pillows are thin, the bed uncomfortable and the towels blue and scratchy. The private shower room, which looks lovely and very new, is separate to the bedroom and very spacious with room for a sink but for some reason they didn't put one in, although there is a toilet - you have to go back to your room to wash your hands - yuk! I didn't use the shower, as although new it didn't look that clean with soap/water marks on the glass surround and hairs in the tray. The sink was not cleaned thoroughly either and I just wanted to leave, which is a real shame with such a nice elderly couple.
When I arrived I was greeted by the owner plus dogs, the dogs were fine but came up against me in my work clothes, not great.
I had requested an early breakfast at 6.30am, just yogurt and fruit, and was told by the owner that he was not getting up at 6.30 to cook me breakfast, I assured him that I wasn't expecting him to and to either leave it on the table and I will help myself or in a cool bag outside my room when they went to bed with a bowl and spoon and I would eat in my room. The owner said eating is not allowed in the room and would discuss with his wife on how they would handle this request. In the end it was set out on the table for the morning.
The bedroom has a paper frieze around the wall with boats on it and the theme is very much blue, 'The Boat Room', with secondary glazing with only one window opening. The TV didn't work so I was asked if I wanted to watch it in another room, which I gladly accepted and sat on a hardback upright chair to watch a tiny TV, better than nothing.
The room and decor is just dated, which is fine if you paid £50 a night, but not fine at £85 a night. The one bonus was a small bowl of fruit with one apple, tangerine, pear and banana in it; I took the fruit for my breakfast at work except the apple that was old and wrinkled.
I had an awful night's sleep and got up at 4.15am, gave up and went to work early. I didn't bother with breakfast at the B&B - too early.
I honestly think that the intention is good but in reality in needs to be cleaned thoroughly, throw away the old dressing gowns, get nice white fluffy towels, a decent mattress and pillows, put a sink in the Shower room, improve the wi-fi and lock away the dogs (no matter how friendly they are). If you were family you probably wouldn't care but as a business and someone needing a good night's sleep, you do care.
It is with regret that I could not recommend staying here and I certainly will not return but increase my budget and go elsewhere.
