Perfect hotel for solo travelling in Brussels

This is my favourite place to stay in Brussels, and it always meets all my expectations. The location is perfect for someone travelling alone, with easy access by both train and bus. You can even see the European institutions right from the windows. The rooms are consistently clean, and the breakfast has everything you could possibly need. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Brussels. Although the service has always been impeccable regardless of the worker, I want to give a special thank you to Sevim at the front desk, who always welcomes me with such warmth and positivity every time I stay.

Very disappointing

The hotel is in serious need of refurbishment, the room was dated, with stained walls and carpets, and old décor. Lingering smell of smoke on my floor. To be called 'New Hotel' is ironic.
At breakfast, I pointed out to staff that the butter sachets were expired by 11 days, and asked for some fresh ones, which they said they didn't have. They removed the stale sachets, but at breakfast the next morning they had put them out again. The cereal in the plastic container that I went for had congealed together into a solid block. Not acceptable when charging €23 per morning for breakfast.
One of the managers was also very rude. When checking out, reception was empty, so I dinged the service bell one time. The manager then complained to me about this, talking about how busy he was, and trying to make me, the guest, feel bad for having done this. He had also acted curt in interactions throughout the stay.
A hotel to avoid.

Basic

The hotel is situated in the EU quarter so if one's there for business, the location is helpful. The room was also clean.
On the negative side, the hotel is pretty run-down (carpets, walls, decor etc). 2 very narrow lifts, only 1 was working. No aircon in the room, so I had no way to warm it up. (There was no heater either, just a fan.) The fridge was empty, but at least coffee was available. Overall, I've had better.

Our (bad) experience with hotel Charlemagne

First of all, I want to talk about how bad communication is. We stayed 1 night in this hotel.
We wanted to book an extra night there because of Brussels, but that was not possible at all both through AGODA and through the hotel itself (which referred to AGODA again).
This was not communicated at all on the AGODA page, afterwards this was communicated on the website itself, only we book it through AGODA and not through the hotel itself, they really have to put this there better so we were forced to book another hotel for that extra night!
The communication was also poor at check-in time on the AGODA website states that we can check in at 2pm. We ourselves were there about 30 min before. when we got there we were told that it has been very busy and we can therefore only check in at 15:00 , so we had to hurry for our timely appointment at 16:30
About the hotel itself the following:
Once checked in the elevator was already way too tight, we were just not stuck.
In the room we were surprised by the poor quality of facilities, the bathroom was mega bad: the tap was full of lime, the bath was not inviting to use and the walls were badly damaged. Unfortunately, that makes for a less pleasant stay..
The bed was okay but for the rest of the facilities it should definitely get a lot of attention because welcoming your guests like this does not seem ideal. You don't really feel welcome.
In summary, the hotel disappoints us especially in terms of communication.. If we had known this, we could have turned to another hotel.
