Cons: visited during a heat wave and while the room was apparently equipped with a/c, the room was super hot. Staff offered to try to adjust the thermostat remotely or bring us a fan. A fan was already plugged in and running when we arrived, which was a clue that the a/c was not working. Staff moved us to another room with apparently working a/c. The second room was still super hot and thermostat kept resetting itself. Almost unbearable to sleep, thankfully there was a window to open, however we were traveling with the a child and itade us nervous to have a large window open while on an upper floor. While the second room was larger, it had one less bed than our original so a cot was brought in. The cot could barely support the weight of a small child. When we checked out in the morning the staff just too the key. Usually hotel staff ask how someone's stay was, but they seemed indifferent to us. The hotel had potential but the broken a/c and staff were e let down.

Room was fine, probably wouldn't cut it as a 4* in North America but typical of other 4* places in Ireland. Gym was decent, looks like it was recently renovated and gear was clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet was great. Evening dining doesn't offer much in the way of vegetarian/vegan options (but that won't matter to most), then again, neither did the restaurants across the street in the little village of Tyrrelstown.

We ate in the Hourglass most evenings which had a good atmosphere with live music on Saturday night. We were able to move out to a quieter area to carry on with our conversations. This is not a fault, but at our age we prefer the quieter areas which were plentiful. All in all a very enjoyable stay
