Another great stay
My husband booked us a night away to celebrate our anniversary and I’d also had a-few health issues and needed a break away .
We haven’t stayed with you since February so was very excited to return. Mini checked us in, it’s always so nice to see her she’s just so delightful. Our room was absolutely ginormous!!! Spotlessly clean. I love the toiletries. I’m normally an Elmis girl but the kelp shampoo and body wash is amazing .
When we returned from our evening out our room was like an oven . We had a fan that had kindly been given to us when we checked in but our in room air con wasn’t working. The lovely lady at the desk gave us another fan which was mega appreciated . That really helped us sleep .
Breakfast was a real let down. Last time was so much better but this time standards have slipped massively. There seems to be no consistency. The continental buffet is poor. Dried meats and cheeses , warm orange juice , hardly any selection. Dried up pastries . Allergen information is definitely needed for each individual item. As a person who has an allergen this is really useful for me. The full cooked breakfast wasn’t great . Potato scones on the menu yet was given a hash brown (5th time in a row) bacon not cooked properly. Tables so close together you can hardly move. We had a hair in our sugar bowl. The self service toast machine though is an excellent addition. It also takes a-bit off restaurant staff too.
We absolutely love this hotel. When we come to stay we don’t even look at other hotels . We love the staff especially Mini, we love the charm of the hotel, the rooms are always immaculate, bed are so comfortable but breakfast continues to let it down. We would definitely return to the hotel but eat breakfast else where which is a shame .

Really sharing its age, but ok
30 years ago this hotel would have been very up market, however it is really showing its age. That said, the hotel is functional and we had a pleasant day. No air-conditioning in the room is a problem particularly in hot weather.
The staff at reception were excellent, a real credit to the hotel. We experienced four different people at different times during our day, and they were excellent.

Great hotel and location, let down by breakfast.
I stayed at the weekend with my wife for an anniversary celebration and as my wife has not been too well of late. A relaxing break away was in order and the Burlington sprung to mind.
When we arrived we were greeted by Mini who gave us her usual amazing welcome. We stored our bags as we arrived early and went out into the sunshine and enjoyed some of what Birmingham city centre has to offer.
On our return we checked in and were on the 5th floor. When we arrived at our room the air conditioning was not working but we found a fan had been left for us. It was not too warm so all good.
The room we had was spotless and huge!
My wife loved the toiletries that are supplied in the room, I brought my own.
We went out for dinner and returned to watch the England match. On return we found that our bedroom had turned into a furnace. It was so hot. My wife went to reception and a lovely lady found us a 2nd fan that helped us sleep. She checked the air con and indeed it was not working.
These things can’t be helped by the staff so appreciated the fast action taken.
Check out again was brilliant by Mini. She is such a huge plus for the hotel.
Now to the negative, Breakfast.
This is our 5th stay here and breakfast is very inconsistent. It’s either very good or very poor. I have done reviews before mentioning the good and bad experiences. Today’s was the worst by far so not sure we will bother in future. For the price we can go out and get much better.
The meat and cheese are both dried up. There are defrosted berries that would be far better made into a compote for the yoghurt as it would eat so much better and is super easy to make.
Sliced fruit and fruit salad looked old.
The pastries are not baked that morning as they taste stale. It’s the worst continental breakfast we have seen in the vast hotels we have stayed in at all * levels.
We ordered plated breakfast and it was bought out while we were eating some of the continental items. This should have come when we had finished. We were not asked if we were having anything prior to our plated choice.
When it came the bacon fat was still white and unappetising. The beans are better served in a pot as opposed to just on the plate. The menu says potato scone but you give hash brown. Either change the menu or give what the menu says. My wife does not like hash brown but loves potato scones.
The new chairs are too close together in breakfast. If people are sat at the table behind you there is no room to move your chair. They are literally back to back. It almost feels like a table or two less would give a more comfortable space.
We will return for sure if we need a room in Birmingham but will give breakfast a miss 100%. Big changes are needed to bring it inline with other hotel chains. The hotel was almost full but breakfast was quiet. Wonder if this is because of others previous experiences too.
