Amazing stay

Just before Easter, I spent 5 days at the RMB. This was my first solo trip and I had done some research before I decided to stay here.
I arrived at about 19:00 and was met by one of the lovely staff at the reception. I paid for my stay and then received my keys to the building, room, and locker.
I stayed in the room Little Miss, which was a a female dorm room with 10 bunk beds. Most nights all of the beds were filled.
The hostel is located at the heart of the Royal Mile, nearly all walking tours you do in the city start at a location less than 5 minutes walk away.
At the hostel, there was a kitchen where you could cook properly (4 gas pits + pans etc.) and in the morning you could either eat your own breakfast or pay for breakfast offered (bread + spread, cereal + milk (also non-dairy), and some fruit.
For my check-out I had to go to the hostel across the road as I had to check out at 6 AM, this was made clear to me before I had arrived which was very much appreciated. You just need to tell them so you can get your ID or 10 euro/pounds back when handing in the keys.
The hostel also organised/brought us to events. On Monday there was a pub quiz, Wednesday was a traditional dance night, Thursday Pupcrawl and the other days I cannot remember any more.
All in all I can definitely recommend the stay here!

Royal mile

Next to the Thai restaurant. There was a smell of food in the air and it always bothered me. Very old building. My best feature is the Royal mile. The linen was too old. The kitchen was very small and inadequate in my opinion. It’s £3 for breakfast at a hostel on its side.

RACIST RECEPTIONIST to female Muslim Turkish woman.

Sheets were old and not clean. They should renew their sheets and pillow, duvet covers. Out of date, they do not seem that they are clean. There was receptionist lady (Kath). She was preparing her breakfast in the kitchen when I and my Muslim female friend with scarf entered into kitchen. I was eating sandwiches, she did not offer me kitchen table that she occupied. My female Muslim friend friendly asked her what she was preparing. She told us that it was her breakfast. Later, she told my friend that she was not in her working hours, she should have asked questions when she works.Firstly, if she was not in her working hours, why she was occupying kitchen customer's kitchen. Seconly when we left the kitchen, she was talking to Spanish couple. She was okey to talk Spanish people but not okey to talk Muslim woman with scarf. My Muslim female friend just asked simple question. Receptionist has racist approach to Muslim customers. Hostels host international people from all around the world. people with prejudice, racist approaches should not work here

Please be assured that our linens are laundered daily to uphold our standards of cleanliness. Regarding the incident you mentioned, we deeply regret any misunderstanding that may have occurred. Our staff members strive to provide exceptional service to all guests, regardless of background. We must clarify that the staff member in question was not on duty at the time of the interaction, as our team members also reside on the premises and require personal time. An hour and a half after the end of her shift, you came into where she was and spoke to her in an invasive way, you had also previously been rude to her during check in and made some suggestive comments to her whilst she was on shift which had made her uncomfortable. After being asked, very politely, to ask her questions about work, when she was working. You took that personally and stormed out of the space. You then returned in an aggressive manner and began to shout at her which was extremely inappropriate, after being asked multiple times to not speak to her like that. You left the space. The other guests who were in the kitchen, who were French not Spanish, were visibly uncomfortable about what had happened and were actually asking if the staff member was ok which led to the conversation after. Our staff are happy to have conversations with kind, welcoming guests who understand their personal time. While we aim to foster a welcoming environment for all guests, we take matters of inappropriate behaviour seriously. We kindly request mutual respect between guests and staff members. Any form of aggression or discomfort is not tolerated within our establishment. We value diversity and inclusivity, and we are committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for all guests. Thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention

A decent place to stay

A good enough place to pass by the city. The room & toilet were clean enough, but the bed sheets were dirty (obvious dirty spots here and there) and the kitchen wasn't so clean either. The facilities were good enough. Unique names for the beds. The atmosphere wasn't good - some weird people once in a while. Friendly receptionists. Strategic location. Because of the price, we will stay there again if we visit Edinburgh in the future, and we recommend others to do the same.

Great visit

All in all this hostel is very clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the common areas are welcoming and cosy. I also felt very safe here due to the security measures and the location is perfect. The downsides are you can often hear music through the window, although it did stop after midnight. There are personal plugs and lights but they are so bright you might as well have the main light on so bring an eyemask just in case.
