An incomparable experience in a bona fide restored manor home

We spent our honeymoon stay at Blervie House and it was a thoroughly memorable part of that whole experience. From before we arrived, Graham was thorough and communicated clearly, and made check-in a completely pleasant experience. Daily breakfast served by Graham and his wife, Sheena, was a delicious start to each day. They were consummate hosts - friendly, helpful and thoroughly charming.
And the residence! Hands-down the most unique and amazing place we’ve ever stayed. You’re literally staying in a Gilded Age manor house, painstakingly restored and furnished. We felt like royalty, but never felt out of place. The grounds were vast and beautiful, and we were surrounded only by the sound of nature.
Our visit to Scotland left us wanting to return again, and Blervie House will undoubtedly be where we stay next time. We couldn’t recommend the hosts and venue highly enough for an authentic, one-of-a-kind northern Scotland stay.

Fantastic house, great host, perfect breakfast

An absolutely unforgettable stay at Blervie House! Even the driveway to the house is impressive and gives an idea of what a special place awaits you. The building itself is breathtaking – full of history, elegance and charm.
Graham was an exceptional host: warm, attentive and full of exciting stories we loved to listen to. You can feel how much passion and dedication he puts into this house.
We were also spoiled for culinary delights – the breakfast was not only rich, but simply delicious and a perfect start to the day.
A place that impresses as well as inspires – we felt completely comfortable and would come back anytime. Unrestrictedly recommended!

Wonderful hosts - Graham and Sheena are extremely focused on making everyone’s stay memorable. The beds are extremely comfy too! Beautifully kept carriage house in a central spot to visit many gems in the area. Was a very relaxing enjoyable stay!

Unfriendly 3 star hotel

we were guests in the Double Deluxe Room from 28-30 July 2025. Our room in the attic had a wasp's nest next to the only window. After 4 minutes we had 5 wasps in the room. We turned to the landlord who knew the problem and immediately showed us another room. Next door there was another room, but this was not finished. Therefore we took the offered room. Grumpy and unfriendly we were informed: either take this room or pay half of the booking over 4 nights. The wireless antenna hung from the ceiling, a former water damage was not repainted, there was no ironing board and no iron, no vanity mirror, no ventilation or air conditioning. The windows could be opened without a fly screen. Next to the room there was an emergency kitchen with coffee machine for the floor. This makes it a 3 star accommodation in our opinion. But the topic was the bossy excuses and the command tone with the assumptions of the landlord that we as typical Germans had no interest in talking to Scots at breakfast. The American flag in front of the main entrance also matches this behaviour of the landlord. We paid the four nights in advance in full, but left before. Afterwards we stayed at Glanapp Castle Hotel. That's actually 5 stars. No more Blervie House hotel for us.

Dear Petra,
We have responded to many of these points on a review left by yourself on another site.
We have advised you that we had our Pest Controller in the following day and did not find any wasp nests but we do appreciate the house is set in a superb rural location of 270 acres/110 hectares and is not an urban environment. The windows are Sash Windows with the original glass as the house is a listed building and it would not be in keeping to fit fly screens.
You made your booking yourself with us directly on our own website and it clearly states we are a privately owned Five Star Bed and Breakfast. The website lists the fact that we have whole house ventilation throughout the house changing the air every 15 minutes and making air conditioning unnecessary. Likewise we advise that the only ironing facilities we offer are on the ground floor. You did not seem to have noticed the tea and coffee making facilities in your room.
You will also find if you check your records that you made your own reservation for three not four nights and were advised of our booking terms including free cancellation up to 7 days prior to arrival then payment in full. As a small bed and breakfast with only 10 rooms available we find that the vast majority of our guests are very happy with this arrangement and do not try to leave without paying as you did!
We do not understand your point regarding the American flag but we have pleasure in flying the flags we do according to international flag etiquette. We would remind you that in the last seven years we have hosted over 15,000 happy guests from 42 different countries.

Absolutely wonderful stay. Graham and Sheena made us so welcome that I think we may have to go back sometime. From the breakfast to the beautiful huge room we couldn’t fault it. The bathroom was absolutely enormous.
Thank you for making our stay so memorable.
