Convient, well priced bed for the night
Many of the reviews are dated. I stayed here one night, it was very clean, I had a comfy bed and it served the purpose. Yes its not a new build and there are stairs that you have to carry bags up. It was affordable and reception staff friendly

Unpleasant not-worthy place
This is not a hotel, this is not even for the normal people. It is cheap and it non-refundable, which is why it is scam. Rooms are way too small, dirty, with stained sheets and plenty of somebody else’s hair on bed. Bed is not comfortable at all, as well as pillows. There isn’t place for luggage, on the wall there’s naked lightbulbs, useless table etc. Shared bathrooms are gross, dirty, with hair everywhere, really unpleasant experience. They wanted to move us into other room, but that one was dirty and with ripped sheets as well. In the most rooms there isn’t window, and one that it has, have bed smelling and dusty curtains. All of that with non-refunding.

A place to sleep, shower, and store your stuff.
You get what you pay for and this is one of the cheapest hotels I could find in Manhattan. This is not a hotel you book to hang out in your room or at a pool. You book it to have a place to sleep, shower, and store your stuff.
Room is tiny, just barely fits the bed and a desk. Only had one suitcase which was good because if I had two it would have been very cramped. Bed was comfy enough and I didn't see any bugs. I could hear other patrons through the walls when in the hallway, but my room itself was quiet. No room service.
Pack these items if you are going to stay here:
WATER (no free drinking water, $1 cash per bottle at reception, ask for cold from the fridge)
SHOWER SHOES
WALL CHARGER (no USB ports)
YOUR OWN SOAP (soap provided, but they are communal)
A NIGHTLIGHT (the room lights are insanely bright and in such a small room it almost gave me a headache at night)
Best thing about this place: a delicious and cheap Chinese bakery right across the street called 'New Kam Boat Bakery.' Great for a quick breakfast or a snack to save for later.
I would book here again because it got the job done.

Pay a little extra and go elsewhere
First of all I did read other reviews so had a fair idea of what I was going to. I have stayed in hostels worldwide so I have seen the varying conditions and standards some places offer. This was well below par.
We stayed for 6 nights, sheets had someone else's pubes or hair on them on arrival. Sheets weren't changed for the remainder of the stay and had to ask I repeatedly for fresh towels. There are 3 or 4 restroom/ shower rooms per floor. On almost a daily basis 1 or 2 of these were not in use due to someone have explosive diarrhoea and vomiting all over the pan.
Yes I booked a room with no window. I'd rather be out in NY than in a room looking out a window at it. The room resembled a cupboard with a ripped chair and broken set of drawers, the remainder of which had been chucked under the bed. The walls were not only paper thin but halfway painted and we didn't have a light fitting. At least the TV worked.
There are lots of local places in Bowery that we saw and in hindsight wish we had booked.

Filthy place
I’m very suspicious of the reviews on booking.com which have scored this place highly so I’ve included photos to help you make up your own minds. We had a double room for 5 days. It was so small there was little room for 2 people to stand up and dress, so we had to take turns. The rooms are not made up unless you ask and you need to ask for new towels. The towels and linen are washed on the premises and not to a very high standard. Our bed was really hard and uncomfortable with springs sticking out and the sheets did not appear clean. When the people in the next room vacated I was going to ask if we could switch rooms until I saw their soiled mattress (pictured below). On our first morning in the hotel a man knocked on our door and asked if we were having issues with rats or roaches! Fortunately they left us alone but I was bitten by something else (bed bugs perhaps) while there. There were 3 smoke detectors in our room and a loose PowerPoint but no mirror. None of the powerpoints in the 3 bathrooms worked so I had to dry my hair in the room without a mirror. Hair dryers are only supplied on request. The bathrooms were filthy and not cleaned daily and they were full of mould. The floors were always wet and coated with hair. The women “cleaning” the place used dirty equipment which meant that they just spread dirt from one place to another. The common areas looked like they had not been mopped for years. There is a very steep staircase into this hotel so in addition to all the other issues it would not suit someone with mobility issues. The hotel is located in Chinatown which is malodorous in parts.
The only positive i can say about this place is it is close to Grand street train station and little Italy. Please be aware that my photos are a more accurate depiction of the facilities than on the hotel website.
