It flew on May 1 for about 4200 yen one way from Kansai International Airport to Kagoshima Airport in LCC called peach airline. I was surprised when I arrived at Kagoshima Airport, but there is a footbath in the airport where you can enjoy a hot spring! If you come to Kagoshima city as it is, there is Amu Plaza where a big ferris wheel is a landmark in front of JR Kagoshima Chuo Station, and a streetcar runs on a wide street, which is surprisingly urban! However, unlike Tokyo and Osaka, prices are cheap, and it is full of delicious things unique to the land that has benefited from the warm climate and abundant sea and mountains. And when I reached out a bit, Sakurajima. The public baths in Kagoshima city are all natural hot springs, probably because of this huge active volcano. Lands blessed with such nature are not so good in Japan. Tokyo, Hokkaido, and Kyoto are also good, but this is an attractive land that is not inferior to them.
Beautiful countryside and great food! Some of the best food I've eaten in Japan and I've been 23 times since 07!
Kagoshima is similar to most mid-tier Japanese cities with one major exception -- it lies next to Sakurajima, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Gateway to the Satsuma Peninsula and Yakushima, Kagoshina is a pleasant place to spend a day or two. See Sakurajima, enjoy a hot springs bath, and be sure to try the local Satsuma cuisine which differs slightly from what you will find elsewhere in Japan. Pleasant, friendly, and well off the tourist circuit for most Westerners. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.
Arriving here via cruise ship this was our introduction to Japan. Despite the light rain we had plenty to see thanks to the many covered shopping arcades. We enjoyed window shopping and the interacting with the locals. The city, spread along Kinko Bay, boasts Sakura-Jima active volcano.
